Honestly, when you step outside the touristy areas, I’m having a hard time determining which city is in worse shape: New Orleans (top) or Detroit (bottom).
Income disparity in New Orleans is mixed. Those with more relative wealth live a street or two away from those with little means. In Detroit, the rich(er) live outside the city in the suburbs.
The decaying and abandoned buildings in New Orleans were probably mostly caused by Katrina and the failed levees. In Detroit, the situation is man-made due to a chronic economic collapse.
This is the country we live in, friends.
