Hey, so I’m taking it easy right now in Chicago. I got here close to 6pm CT even though I left super early in the morning from LAX. I had a three hour layover in San Francisco which was actually pretty nice. SFO – at least at the Virgin America section – was really nice with a very modern and techy vibe.
I pretty much slept during most of my flight from SFO to try to make up for my lack of sleep the night before. To be honest, when I got to Downtown Chicago I wasn’t really feeling the vibe here. I arrived at a destination that was quite grungy, industrialized and sterile; the street that I walked on for quite a bit ran parallel to the train overpass and there were some areas that were littered with trash. But I kept on walking and decided to take an alternative route to my friend’s apartment. The environment changed quickly as I approached an intersection and saw a building with the big letters T R U M P. I quickly walked the other direction and encountered an ice cream shop. For $2.03 I bought a kiddie scoop of peanut butter ice cream and eating it along the water front instantaneously made me forget about my prior first impression of Chicago.
While I waited for my friend to arrive at her apartment, I had to lay down and I did on a bench. My fatigue was getting to me and I hated carrying my bags around. I tried to pack lightly for this trip and I thought I did considering that I had everything in only a backpack and a Nike gymbag. When we weighed my bags at the apartment, I discovered that my bags weighed a total of 36 pounds. That’s crazy beans for someone like me. I’m not very strong. However I am proud of myself for walking miles with all that weight on me today.
Anyways, I’m not sure how I will elect to document this entire trip. I’d love to have your honest thoughts though – did this post read okay? Did I ramble too much? Please let me know and I’ll work to have more engaging posts in the future.
I want you to be on this journey with me. I want you to feel like you’re here with me, or at least I will try to make that happen if you have any interest in my adventures at all.
I have to take off now. My friends are waiting for me.
